In Loving Memory of Michael J. Ostrelich (1938 – 2025)
Our beloved father, Michael J. Ostrelich, passed away peacefully last night at the wonderful age of 87.

Michael lived a life marked by love, laughter, curiosity, and achievement. He was an extraordinary dad who not only taught us practical skills—gardening, skiing, tennis, cooking, and the importance of using a level correctly—but also showed us how to approach life with joy and humor. His booming laugh was one of his greatest trademarks, and those who knew him will always be able to hear it in their hearts.

Born into humble beginnings, Michael carved out a remarkable path for himself. He pursued a career as a mechanical engineer, where his inventive mind and love of problem-solving left a lasting mark. From working on small appliances at General Electric to contributing to one of humanity’s greatest scientific achievements—the Hubble Space Telescope—his work inspired awe and respect. There was hardly a project he couldn’t enhance with his ideas, often involving hydraulics, and there was hardly a colleague or friend who didn’t hear one of his many engineering stories.

Even after decades of professional success, Michael never stopped learning. At the age of 76, he earned a Master’s degree in Nanoscale Technology from SUNY Polytechnic Institute, exemplifying his lifelong passion for education and innovation. He was a shining example that curiosity doesn’t fade with age, and that new challenges are always worth pursuing.

Beyond his career, Michael was a man of family and community. He built a warm, vibrant circle of loved ones who admired his resilience, wisdom, and kindness. He took great joy in sharing meals, stories, and laughter, and he encouraged everyone around him to live fully and generously.

Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife, with whom he shared decades of partnership and love. Together, they created a home full of warmth, support, and laughter. Their friends and family will remember them both with deep affection.

He leaves behind children, grandchildren, and extended family who will miss him immensely and carry forward the lessons he instilled: to laugh often, to never stop learning, and to approach life with both humor and determination.

We are grateful for his long, full life and the many ways he touched our hearts. Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind.

For those who knew both Mom and Dad, we wanted to share this news so their mutual friends and loved ones can honor their memory together.
