Cobie Lyn Power, Cherished Sister, Wife, and Friend, Passes Away at 49
On September 3, 2025, we said goodbye to one of the most loving and vibrant souls — Cobie Lyn Power, age 49, of Placentia. Cobie passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her devoted husband and her faithful dog, after a courageous battle with illness that spanned nearly a decade.

Cobie lived her life filled with joy, laughter, and the things she loved most. A talented baker, she was especially known for her cookies and cheesecakes, often inviting the little ones to bake alongside her — a Christmas tradition that will be dearly missed. A proud Toronto Blue Jays fan, she could always be found cheering them on, even convincing her English husband to share in the excitement. Her love for traveling, especially with friends and family, gave her countless memories — and plenty of opportunities to shop, something she always enjoyed.

When illness made travel difficult, Cobie poured her creativity into her crafts and Dolly Doodle Designs. She adored board games (and winning them) and especially loved Christmas, her favorite time of the year. She decorated her home with multiple Christmas trees — up by October, down by March — and treasured family traditions like board game nights and watching White Christmas or the unforgettable Holiday Armadillo episode of Friends.

Cobie embodied the spirit of living with illness, not dying from it. From her diagnosis almost 10 years ago, she embraced every treatment offered, no matter the challenges, facing it all with resilience, determination, and grace. Instead of focusing on difficulties, she sought ways to overcome them. Even in her final week, she was planning a trip to see the Blue Jays and discussing ideas for her Christmas crafts. For Cobie, quitting was never an option.

She is predeceased by her father, John Power; uncle Billy “Shorty” Wakeham; cousin Jessica Power; and grandparents William & Rita Wakeham and Michael & Eileen Power.

Left to mourn with endless love and beautiful memories are her husband, Anthony “Jack” Ruff, and her beloved dog, Dolly. She is also survived by her parents, Cathy & Brian Griffin and Jocelyn Power; parents-in-law, James & Marion Ruff; siblings, Shyla (Bruce), Chelsie (Rick), Lucas (Jennifer), Trudy (Derek), and Tim; and siblings-in-law, Caragh (Mark Gomme), Alex (Kelly), and Lisa (Steve Dawkins).

Cobie’s memory will live on in her nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own: Sophie, Carter, Jake, Lily, Waylon, Jordan (Dominique), Callum, Gemma, and great-niece Myla; as well as April, Alexandra, Connor, Abbie, Jamie, Stephen, Joey, Harry, Alfie, Ollie, and Stephanie. She will also be remembered fondly by a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and countless friends. Cobie truly treasured her friendships and kept in close touch with loved ones near and far — family who were best friends, and friends who were like family.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Cobie’s oncology team, especially Dr. Brent Tompkins and Dr. Joy McCarthy, for their years of dedication and compassionate care. Special gratitude also goes to the doctors and nurses at the Placentia Health Centre, who treated Cobie like family and provided unwavering support both in and out of the hospital.

Funeral Arrangements: Visitation will be held at Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia, on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Maher’s Funeral Home on Sunday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m., followed by inurnment at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia.

Cobie will be remembered as someone who lived with joy, fought with courage, and loved deeply. Her laughter, warmth, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
