Australian Chiropractor Dr. Sean Crawford Among Two Killed in Vietnam Tunnel Crash
A tragic collision late Sunday night inside the Ngang Pass tunnel, which links Vietnam’s central provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Tri, has claimed two lives, including that of Australian chiropractor Dr. Sean Crawford.
The fatal crash occurred around 11:50 p.m. when a sleeper bus and a seven-seat car collided head-on inside the tunnel. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, and two passengers in the car were killed instantly. Among them was Dr. Crawford, 27, from Western Australia, who had been visiting Vietnam on holiday.
Road Safety Concerns in Vietnam
The accident highlights Vietnam’s ongoing road safety crisis. From January to July 2024 alone, the country recorded 10,809 road accidents, resulting in 6,101 deaths and 7,205 injuries, according to the National Statistics Office. Despite modern infrastructure such as tunnels designed to enhance safety, fatal collisions remain alarmingly common.
