Alfred Gonzales Espinosa, Jr., Beloved Pastor, Husband, and Family Man Passed Away (1955–2025)
Alfred Gonzales Espinosa, Jr., of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, in Humble, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was 70 years old. Born on January 5, 1955, in Houston, Texas, Alfred was the cherished son of Alfredo Espinosa and Alberta Ryan. He grew up in Houston and graduated from M.B. Smiley High School.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Alfred lived a life defined by faith, service, and love. For many years, he worked proudly as an elevator mechanic with the National Elevator Industry before retiring. He and his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty Espinosa, made their home in Dayton for the past 43 years, where together they raised their family.

Alfred’s greatest passion was his faith. A man deeply devoted to the Lord, he served as pastor at Meeker Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas, and previously worshipped at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church. Known for his knowledge of Scripture, his gift for teaching, and his love of fellowship, Alfred led countless Bible studies and mentored many in their spiritual journeys. He often traveled across the country simply to hear great preachers, always eager to grow in his relationship with God.

Outside of his ministry, Alfred was known for his humor, generosity, and kind heart. He loved spending time with family and friends, tackling carpentry and home projects, and riding his motorcycle on the open road. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Alfred is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eddie Espinosa and John Cravero. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Espinosa; daughters, Tonya Espinosa Smith and Joni Espinosa Thrift; brothers, Allen Espinosa (Cindy), Adam Espinosa (Terri), and Tommy Cline (Jackie); sister, Ramona Espinosa; grandchildren, Mazy Black, Zoey Smith, Lana Smith, and Slade Smith; great-grandchild, Mazelynn Lavergne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A celebration of Alfred’s life will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church in Dayton, with Pastor Jeff Day officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jess Walters, Timothy Smith, Michael Fowler, Bradly Espinosa, Eddy Espinosa, Corbyn Cravero, and Steven Fowler. Honorary pallbearers include David Smith, Johnny Minx, Ronnie Greer, Johnny Pounders, Anthony Pounders, and Bruce Bradley.

Alfred will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, deep love for his family, and a heart that touched countless lives. His legacy of service, kindness, and devotion will live on in all who knew him.
