Bordertown in Shock After Mother of Six Killed in Suspected Murder-Suicide

A small community in South Australia is reeling after a tragic incident in Bordertown, where a mother of six was allegedly killed by her partner, who then took his own life.

Just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, police conducted a welfare check at a home on Melvyn Street, approximately 270km southeast of Adelaide. Inside, they discovered the bodies of 41-year-old Shafeeqa Husseini and her 47-year-old husband, Mirza Husseini.

South Australia Police confirmed the incident was a murder-suicide. Acting Assistant Commissioner Cath Hilliard told reporters on Monday that Mr. Husseini was known to police in connection with a previous domestic violence incident earlier this year involving his wife.

“There were no current court-imposed restrictions in place preventing contact between the couple,” Hilliard noted.

Authorities confirmed that the couple’s six children were not at home at the time of the incident.

According to police, a concerned family member requested the welfare check after losing contact with the couple, despite having spoken with them earlier in the day.

The investigation is ongoing, and support services are being made available to the family and the wider Bordertown community as they grapple with the tragedy.
