Freeport Woman Identified as Victim in Fatal Route 26 Crash
Authorities have identified 62-year-old Darcy Brunner as the woman killed in a car crash Saturday evening on Illinois Route 26.
According to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred between Oneco Road and Winslow Road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Brunner had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on-site. The Freeport Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Following the crash, Oneco Road was temporarily closed as authorities worked at the scene. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes until the road was reopened.
Darcy Brunner was a cherished mother and devoted wife to her husband, Thomas Brunner. The couple was well-known in the Freeport community. Originally from Delhi, Iowa, she earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was a proud graduate of Maquoketa Valley Senior High School.
A music enthusiast, Brunner had spent the hours before her passing at a Jonas Brothers listening party. Her sudden loss has left family, friends, and the community deeply saddened.
