Redwood Valley, California — Geneva Elizabeth Kinney (Burrell), 81, passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2025. Born on February 7, 1944, in Lassen, California, Geneva’s life was defined by devotion to family, service to her community, and a generosity of spirit that touched everyone she met.
For more than 25 years, Geneva was a successful local business owner, creating not just a thriving enterprise but a welcoming space that embodied her values of kindness, hard work, and care for others. After retiring, she continued to serve her community at the local community college, where she spent over a decade assisting students in the campus bookstore.
Known for her nurturing heart, Geneva loved baking, gardening, and spending time with loved ones. Her homemade meals, vibrant flowers, and especially her beloved banana bread became cherished traditions within her family and circle of friends. She also shared a close bond with her sister, Denise, often enjoying shopping trips that reflected her selfless nature—always thinking of others before herself.
Geneva is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Kinney; her daughter, Janelle Rau (John); her sister, Denise Gorny (Phil); grandchildren Davis, Colten, Nikolai, Casey, and Maddie; and great-grandchildren Kyler, Mila, Navy, and Kate. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will forever remember her warmth and strength. Geneva often said that her greatest joy and accomplishment in life was her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Brent; her parents, Olga and Ernest; and her brothers, Jeff, Brooks, and Michael Burrell.
Geneva’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her—as a devoted wife and mother, a loving grandmother, sister, and aunt, and a steadfast friend.
May her memory bring peace and comfort to those who were blessed to share in her life.
