The Cambridge for Europe community is deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and committee member, Cecilia Hall, who passed away last week after a short illness.
With proud Italian heritage and family ties across the EU, Cecilia was a passionate believer in European unity. She first became involved with our work following the 2016 referendum, volunteering tirelessly at People’s Vote campaign stalls, rallies, and leafleting drives across Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire. Even after the UK formally left the EU, Cecilia remained determined to keep the European dream alive. In 2021, she joined the Cambridge for Europe committee, where her dedication and organisational skills were central to many successful campaign events.
Cecilia’s passion for justice extended far beyond Europe. A committed supporter of Ukraine’s right to freedom and democracy, she attended countless rallies in Cambridge following Russia’s full-scale invasion. More than that, she was instrumental in organising fêtes and concerts that raised both awareness and vital funds for charities aiding the Ukrainian people.
Those who knew Cecilia will remember her as caring, dependable, and determined. She was never shy of voicing her opinions, and her lively conversations over coffee at The Mill or evenings at the Maypole pub will be greatly missed. Her warmth, conviction, and sense of humour made her not only an inspiring campaigner but also a loyal and big-hearted friend in challenging times.
We extend our deepest sympathy to her husband, Martin, and her family during this difficult period. As a committee, we are committed to honouring Cecilia’s memory by continuing the work she believed in—campaigning for a fairer, more united, and hopeful world.
