Worcester State Mourns the Loss of Student-Athlete Evan Armit
Worcester, MA — With heavy hearts, Worcester State University announces the passing of men’s ice hockey student-athlete Evan Armit, who died on August 24, 2025, at the age of 23, following a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.

Evan was a beloved son, brother, teammate, and friend whose presence touched countless lives. A two-year member of the Lancers Men’s Ice Hockey team, he was pursuing a degree in Business Administration and carried with him a lifelong passion for the sport. His journey on the ice was marked by dedication and talent, having previously played with the Winnipeg Freeze (MJHL) and the Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL).

“Evan was an incredible student-athlete and beloved teammate. He will be greatly missed by our entire campus community,” said Athletic Director Michael Mudd. “Our thoughts are with the Armit family at this difficult time.”

Beyond athletics, Evan was admired for his strong work ethic, generosity, and character. Friends and teammates remember him as a quiet leader whose humility and kindness left an indelible mark both on and off the ice.

“Evan embodied the very best qualities of a teammate and a friend—hardworking, humble, and selfless,” said Head Coach Jay Punsky. “His joy was infectious, his spirit unwavering, and his kindness extended to everyone he met. Though his time with us was far too brief, Evan’s legacy will live on in the lives he touched.”

Throughout his illness, Evan faced each day with remarkable strength, courage, and grace. His perseverance and willingness to raise awareness about his condition served as an inspiration to many, demonstrating resilience and hope in the face of adversity.
